Membership

As a member of the Wildlife and Environmental Conservation Society of Zambia (WECSZ), not only are you contributing to the betterment of environmental and wildlife concerns but you may also benefit from the use of WECSZ facilities. A brief description of these are given below, although more information is available on each camp's own page. To access camp pages click on the heading below the camp you wish to find out more about.  
To become a member of the Wildlife Society a completed membership form should be forwarded to the National Office in Lusaka or to one of the Society's branches. Forms can be obtained from branches, the National Office or printed from this web site; to print  click here .

 

The Wildlife Camp, South Luangwa Valley

As a member you will be offered preferential rates when booking, providing you with significant discounts on accommodation costs. The camp itself offers a full range of facilities including family chalets, en-suite chalets and a campsite with options of self-catering or full catering by arrangement. In addition to this are the restaurant and bar facilities, cold storage, a laundry service, and airport transfers. Activities available to you include conducted game viewing and night drives in the camp's own vehicles, and walking safaris.

Kafwala Camp, North Kafue National Park

A camp reserved for members use only and whose site, opposite gentle rapids and lush riverine islands, is one of the most picturesque in Zambia. The 10-bed self-catering camp offers an ideal getaway retreat, together with good game viewing and fishing.

Chibila Camp (priviously David Shepherd Camp), South Kafue National Park

A 12-bed self-catering camp that offers views over Lake Itezhi-Tezhi which is in itself worth going for. Accommodation comes in the form of double and family chalets, and with the South Kafue National Park and lake nearby, game viewing and fishing are readily available. The camp now also offers camping facilities.

Chembe Bird Sanctuary

Situated 27km from Kitwe this protected area of woodland, grassland and wetland around a small dambo offers a great retreat within a secluded area. Also on offer are a campsite with basic facilities and a picnic/braai (BBQ) area with attendant. Boats can also be hired for either fishing or birding, and off the water you are welcome to take bird walks through a variety of habitats.

Membership lasts for one calendar year, at the end of which it will need to be renewed. Family, Single, Student and Club Membership is available to persons living in Zambia, whilst International Membership is available to persons living elsewhere. All members recieve a membership card and are entitled to discounts at the Society Camps. Members will receive the Society Newsletter 6 times a year and are entitled to a 10% discount on books and cards sold at the National Office or branches.

With Corporate Membership the company involved will receive a Corporate Membership Certificate, two family memberships and a 10% discount on books in the Societies natural history series. In addition to this, talks concerning environmental and wildlife issues can be arranged for a small fee, whilst short courses may also be organised. Corporate Members may also advertise their support for the work of the Wildlife and Environmental Conservation Society of Zambia and Zambia's natural environment in their promotional material.
